Image Processing
Our team plans to accomplish a partial traverse of the SPI by using RADARSAT and LANDSAT imagery in conjunction with GPS receivers for navigation under any weather condition. Our team's ground verification of the radar data will provide important information to researchers investigating global climate change. The team will also collect ground control points to georeference the satellite image using orthorectification techniques and GPS positions. The overall utility of GPS navigation and satellite images for route finding on the ice cap, avoiding crevasses and other hazards will be determined. ERDAS, Inc.(http://www.erdas.com/) has kindly provided a complete suite of their IMAGINE 8.3 satellite image processing software.
